The Golden Rule

Today is Golden Rule day, a time to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Sounds like good, solid advice.

Hard to find an argument against that, right? How could we challenge a maxim handed down over centuries—millenia even?

But people do. They say, “I wouldn’t want to be treated the way some people treat themselves.”

Ay, there’s the rub. The saying is based on the premise that people love themselves and treat themselves lovingly. But not everyone does.

The Golden Rule is good advice, but it has to be built on a solid foundation. First, love yourself.

This video includes some of the many variations of the Golden Rule found in cultures around the world.
