“Casserole Platelets”
A wound in a community is similar to a wound in the human body. This story placed fifth in the 9th Annual Writer’s Digest Short Short Story Competition. Jessica Strawser of Writer’s Digest wrote: “Finishing among the top 10 entries is an accomplishment you can be proud of. When the editors of Writer’s Digest conducted the final-round judging, debate over how to rank the top 25 was quite spirited!”
“Open”
A few years ago at a book study the people in the group were asked to write a short paragraph in answer to the question “What is God?”
An image popped into my head of a universe that operated like an infinite library full of books. Different books awaited different people. Some people refused to open their books out of fear. Other people refused to even believe the books were there. Still others believed that their books should be everyone else’s books, too.
At the centre of this universe lay the creative force; the nothing out of which everything arises. From that image, I wrote this story.
“Periods and Pads and Stuff”
Word play, pure and simple.
